Mississippi

The Law:

Felons on probation, in prison, or on parole cannot vote if they have been convicted of certain crimes listed in the state's constitution. These include murder, rape, bribery, theft, arson, obtaining money or goods under false pretenses, perjury, forgery, embezzlement, or bigamy. All persons in the above mentioned categories remain disfranchised permanently after the completion of sentence. Persons seeking to regain their voting rights may apply for a pardon, seek the restoration of civil rights from the governor, or obtain an affirmative vote from two thirds of the state legislature.
