Virginia

The Law:

Felons on probation, in prison, or on parole cannot vote. All former felons remain permanently disfranchised after completion of sentence, unless they seek restoration of rights from the Governor. In order to apply for restoration of rights, an individual must have been released from supervised probation for a minimum of 3 years for a nonviolent offense or 5 years for a violent, drug distribution or drug manufacturing offense and have no other convictions during that time. Additionally, the individual must have paid all costs, fines, and/or restitution to any court, including traffic court.
